A SOLDIER’S WIFE
Poem #0025

It was a time of war, when young men gave their Lives
They left their families, their sweethearts, and Wives
They knew deep down that there was nothing Greater
Then to give their lives for their country, and their Creator

The lights were on late one night, as a young bride knelt crying
She asked God to keep her man safe, while around him, friends were dying
She understood that only God, held power over death and life
He said nothing would separate them, when they became man and wife

She knew he would come home to her, if he was able
That’s why every night, she would set his place at their table
Then came one day, a letter that she was dreading
But it didn’t cause her grief, it wasn’t that upsetting

Three months later, there came a knock on her door
She knew before she opened it, that her man was home from the war
She showered him with kisses, her love for him she told
Our love is more precious, than Silver or Gold
